Long way down

These high platforms ARE high. USC diving facility, 1991 Olympic Festival, Los Angeles, CA.

Where this was shot from...

Launch

1991 US Olympic Festival, 600mm/f4.0, Nikon F4, Extrachrome 100X, USC Pool, Los Angeles, CA.

Man - it is a lot of fun to go through your old negatives and slides - I am about 1/5th of the way through my total collection of negs and slides - I've actually discarded almost 90% of what I've gone through and kept only those images that were somewhat decent - I should have done this forever ago just to get rid of the bulk of negatives I've moved with me across the country 4 times. :-)

Pain in the back...

High school wrestling tournament... this was easily one of the darkest gyms I've ever been in - think TMAX 3200 pushed two stops to get 1/125 at f2.8 with a 180mm.

Weight of the world.... or at least two other guys.

That just looks like someone will be hurting in a couple more seconds.

Deep Breath

Old picture from a high school swim meet - shot at the YWCA pool in Hartford, CT somewhere in 1991/1992. It was a dark pool - the film was TMAX 3200 pushed two stops to get 1/250 sec, 300mm/f2.8 wide open at 11~12 feet.

Walk the Plank

The ropes courses used by businesses, schools, and other organizations in order to promote team building are a lot of fun to see poeple really get over some big fears. This particular event on the ropes course involved jumping off the plank and trusting that the safety line + pulleys + harness will keep you from becoming a pancake.

Plastic Man

It is always amazing to me what the human body can do when pushed to extremes... this guy's nickname should be "plastic man". This is from the 1991 US Olympic Festival in LA.

Hood Ornaments: Well used Ferrari Emblems

Sticking with the hood ornament theme this week and trying to find some in my past snapshots.

Hood Ornaments: Mercedes Silver Star

My wife loves the silver star of the Mercedes. This is from her 2001 C240 which is now gone. She'll be in Seattle Magazine soon with her 2005 E320cdi Diesel - I'll post a link when they publish it.

C240:

Hood Ornaments: Duesenberg

The traditional Dusenberg hood ornament:

A unique one I noticed on a 1936 Dusenberg Murphey Convertible:

Odd - it looks more like a large cavalino rpante from a Ferrari - but if this is a 1936 it was before the first Ferrari was ever made (1947 Ferrari 166 Spyder Serail #004C) and is just coincidence. Amusing.

Hood Ornaments: Bentley

Bentley... the winged B.

Pierce Arrow

I have always liked hood ornaments on the older cars - they were so unique/interesting. I think I'll dig through and try to have a series of hood ornament postings soon. I've see everything from planes with working propellors when the wind goes through them to the old model a/t that had a thermometer for the radiator embedded in the ornament. It's just fun to look at them.

This is frome a Pierce-Arrow that was at the 2004 Kirkland Concours.
