About Dave Quick

So who am I?  If you’re trying to figure out if I’m a Dave Quick that you know or just trying to figure out why I write about Photography and Software…

I grew up in South Windsor, Connecticut but graduated from high school in West Hartford, CT at Kingswood-Oxford.  I attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY and joined the Acacia International Fraternity.  Two alumni of the fraternity worked at a company called LANSystems, Inc. in New York City and I co-op’ed there for a year. Since then I’ve only worked for two companies - Microsoft and The Generations Network.

Currently, I work as a Program Manager at Microsoft Corporation by day and do photo contract and freelance work as a professional photographer.

My day job at Microsoft is focused on storage… what those in the industry would call “structured and unstructured cloud storage”.  Large scale storage…  petabytes of file streams, billions of files, billions of list items.  That kind of storage.  :-)

My photographic work is mostly a photo journalistic style - using mostly natural light and tending towards longer lenses.  I can and will vary my style according to the subject matter and according to the needs of clients.  I shoot all digital (Nikon D2x bodies are my main body today) and am flexible with including the full size images in digital format based on the agreed usage and will price accordingly.
